Testing Services: Infrared Thermography Inspection & NDT Non-Destructive Testing

Testing is not always planned, but prevention deminishes the high-cost of emergency testing. AIS' testing service can save in repair cost and lower the risk of catastrophic failures. Our testing services are infrared , which is a form of non-destructive testing and NDT also known as non-destructive testing. These test methods are capable of finding existing issues.

Infrared Testing and Inspection

Testing Service: Infrared Inspections

    • Electrical Distribution Equipment
    • Electrical Transformers
    • Electrical Switchgear (Up to 115-kV)
    • Furnace Casing Heat Losses
    • Boiler Heat Losses

Infrared (IR) inspections of electrical or mechanical equipment does not have to be expensive.  The benefits in using AIS Infrared (IR) Inspection Service are cost and experience.

Whether you have an electrical or a mechanical system that needs an infrared [thermal] inspection we provide quality bottom line inspections that lower your maintenance cost or energy losses.

Benefits of using our infrared (IR) inspections:

  • Radiometric Infrared (IR) Camera
  • Informative & Detailed Documentation
  • Knowledgeable and Experienced
  • Service and Value

NDT Non-Destructive Testing

Testing Service: NDT Non-destructive Testing

    • Piping & Tanks
    • Pressure Vessels
    • Boilers: Tubes, Shells and Drums
    • Cracked Cylinders
    • Small Steam Turbine Rotors
    • Tie-Rods

NDT capabilities are magnetic particle both dry and wet including PT or dye penetrant testing. Testing services include field hardness testing and ultrasound testing using shear (generally used to find cracks) and longitudinal (normally used to determine thickness) methods. AIS testing services have value.

Zebra Mussel Video in Water Main

Testing Service: Video & Retrieval

    • Turbines
    • Piping
    • Boilers
    • Condensers & Heat Exchangers
    • Sprinkler Piping
    • Water Main
    • Retrieval of Tools

Why should you have a videoscope inspection of a turbine each year? Because it is 20 to 50 times less expensive than a dismantle for a turbine inspection.  Why use a videoscope or remote video camera on any piece of equipment, because as humans we rely on our visual sense to make decisions and a videoscope inspection [Borescope inspection] and a remote video camera lets you see what you normally cannot.  A videoscope inspection or remote video camera can make a difference in a turbine inspection or pipe camera inspection.

Are you having Zebra Mussel problems or experiencing flow restrictions?  Do you have problems where you are thinking about digging or removing pipe?  Are you suspicious of your water main or sprinkler piping being corroded or having blockage?  In all cases, these are very expensive decisions.  The alternative is to inspect the pipe from the inside and find the exact location and make the right decision.

Electrical Connections
Thermography or infrared will image a hot spot or loose connection. Here, B phase Φ on load side is overheated. A simple tightening with a cleaning maybe all the is needed; however, ignored this small hot spot can destroy an entire factory. Frequency of infrared is based on more than a simple once a year. In some cases the inspection can be extended.

DA Tanks: Deaerators
Deaerators are subject to catastrophic failure from SCC or stress corrosion cracking in the welds. The testing is done by non-destructive means to find the cracks inside the pressure vessel. The cracks usually can be ground with minor weld repair. The NDT needs to be done approximately every five-years.
